Gua sha has gone from ancient Chinese practice to one of the most talked-about at-home skincare rituals — and for good reason. A few minutes with the right tool can leave your skin looking depuffed, sculpted, and genuinely relaxed.
What gua sha actually does
The technique uses a smooth-edged tool to apply light pressure and glide across the skin, which can help temporarily reduce puffiness, encourage lymphatic drainage, and give your face a more sculpted, awake look.
A simple 5-minute routine
- Apply a facial oil or serum first so the tool glides smoothly.
- Start at the neck and work upward and outward — always away from the center of the face.
- Use the flat edge for cheeks and jawline, the curved notch for under the brow and along the jaw.
- Repeat each stroke 3-5 times per area, using light to medium pressure.
- Finish by rolling a jade roller over the whole face for a cooling reset.
Tips
- Keep your roller in the fridge for an extra depuffing effect.
- Clean your tools after each use with a gentle soap and water.
- Consistency matters more than pressure — a gentle daily routine beats an aggressive once-a-week session.
